5 digital innovations from DEWA at GITEX 2022 and its DEWAverse journey

DEWA’s innovatie solutions backed by AI and robotics are furthering the fourth industrial revolution

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has invested in multiple innovative technologies to improve the performance and productivity of its services, while reshaping the concept of a utility provider.

DEWA’s programmes and initiatives backed by Digital DEWA is showcasing a variety of these prominent and proactive digital initiatives at GIXTEX Global. While some of the technologies focus on internal software, such as blockchain, energy storage, and the internet of things, others are more visible, such as its four-legged robots.

Here are five of DEWA’s innovative solutions using AI and robotics, which are furthering the fourth industrial revolution.

Robotic Process Automatic

Robotic Process Automatic (RPA) improves DEWA’s productivity and reduces operations by 40000 hours. For instance, DEWA has four-legged Spot Robots to detect faults, test connection points of high voltage cables, detect leakages in water pipes, and conduct security and monitoring patrols, among other functions.

DEWA also uses the Industrial Arm Robot to clean the surface of low-voltage electrical equipment, painting and welding operations, and clean equipment and valves.

DEWA’s space D Program

DEWA’s space programme (Space-D) aims to improve the operations, maintenance, and planning of its networks with the support of nanosatellite technology, Internet of Things (IoT), and remote sensing technologies.

Power Block app

DEWA and Siemens have started a project to develop the smart Power Block app for the power station as a prototype on a larger scale. The app depends entirely on AI techniques as well as modern thermodynamic science.

Smart grid IoT platform

As part of its smart rid programme, DEWA recently launched the Big Data and Analytics platform to integrate smart grid applications, and operational technologies, among others.

DEWA also launched its smart Grid Data Governance platform to ensure compliance with all data policies and procedures.

Efficiency optimiser for gas turbines

The Digital Twin Gas Turbine (GT) Intelligent Controller uses thermodynamic, AI, and machine learning to control gas turbines at M-Station in Jebel Ali, the largest power generation and water desalination plant in the UAE.

It improves turbine efficiency, increases its generation capacity, and reduces fuel consumption and  harmful emissions.

DEWA’s digital arm – Digital DEWA is based on four pillars:

  • launching advanced solar power technologies;
  • deploying a renewable energy grid with innovative energy storage technologies;
  • expanding and integrating AI solutions to make Dubai the first city to provide electricity and water services using AI technologies; and
  • digital services

DEWA’s metaverse journey – DEWAverse

DEWA launched DEWAverse recently, to provide its services to its customers and employees, in the Metaverse world. Making it the 1st local government entity to launch its virtual platform using Metaverse technology.

DEWA invested in Metaverse technology to implement and develop its current and future projects for various stakeholders, including employees, customers and all members of the society. Which will contribute to achieve their happiness in addition to contributing to the development of businesses, raising the level of efficiency and production, and reducing cost.
