Qatar launches new digital service to empower local workforce

The new initiative seeks to empower residents by providing them with employment opportunities

In a significant step towards modernising its labour market and empowering local residents, the Ministry of Labour (MoL) in Qatar has unveiled a digital service titled “Request to Join the Labour Market (Change from Family Residency to Work Residency).” This innovative service is poised to transform the hiring process, making it easier and more efficient for private enterprises to employ local residents.

The newly introduced service was officially presented during an enlightening seminar themed “Services of the Ministry of Labour for entrepreneurs.” This seminar, which was organised by MoL in collaboration with the Qatar Development Bank (QDB), aimed to introduce entrepreneurs to the Ministry’s cutting-edge services.

Salem Darwish Al Muhannadi, Head of the Work Permits Section in the Employment Department at MoL, described the seminar as a platform to familiarise entrepreneurs with the Ministry’s evolving service portfolio. “The participating entrepreneurs will get detailed information about the MoL services with special focus on two services ‘Request to Amend Occupations on Work-Permits’ and ‘Attestation of Work Contracts’,” Al Muhannadi explained.

This initiative marked a pivotal moment for entrepreneurs, as MoL has added approximately 25 fully digital services tailored to their needs. These digital offerings were unveiled as part of a broader strategy to increase awareness among business owners and entrepreneurs about the services provided by MoL.

Al Muhannadi noted that these services are in line with the ongoing enhancements and digital transformation taking place in the labour sector. He revealed that the ultimate objective of the initiative is to streamline, expedite service delivery and enhance the customer journey; thus, fortifying a more efficient and effective support system for all stakeholder.

Various representatives from different departments within the Ministry of Labour attended the seminar to provide insights into the recently released digital services, which are part of the Ministry’s comprehensive digital transformation plan. These representatives hailed from the Work Permits, Labour Relations, Inspection, Labour Disputes, as well as the National Workforce in the Private Sector departments.

The “Request to Amend Occupations on Work-Permits” and “Attestation of Work Contracts inside the State of Qatar” e-services took center stage during the seminar. Additionally, a general preview of previously launched services by the Work Permit Department was provided.

Following the conclusion of the seminar, officials from various departments of the Ministry were readily available to address inquiries from business owners and entrepreneurs regarding the new services associated with different sectors of the Ministry.

The introduction of the “Request to Join the Labour Market (Change from Family Residency to Work Residency)” service underscores Qatar’s commitment to enhancing its labor market and providing its residents with more opportunities for active participation and contribution, thereby fostering growth and development in the local labor market.
