In a significant announcement, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, revealed that UNESCO has accepted a proposal from the UAE. The Emirati leader declared that October 29 of each year will now be recognised as the International Day of Programming, while March 19 will mark the International Day for Digital Education.
Global recognition for UAE’s initiatives
Expressing the significance of this achievement, Sheikh Mohammed shared the news on social media, stating that UNESCO has embraced the Emirati proposal. He highlighted the importance of these designated days, emphasising their global impact.
The choice of October 29 is particularly symbolic, representing the day Dubai Internet City was launched. Sheikh Mohammed emphasised the growing importance of programming in economic development, positioning it as a fundamental focus for the UAE.
The announcement also designates March 19 as the International Day for Digital Education. Sheikh Mohammed underscored the crucial role of digital education as a cornerstone in scientific development. He reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to championing the adoption of the best tools and practices for the benefit of humanity.
