Dubai gets smarter, uses AI to monitor taxis, buses, delivery riders

Dubai has initiated the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to oversee and keep tabs on the operations of numerous public utility vehicles and their drivers

The Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC), which oversees thousands of vehicles across the emirate, has introduced an AI-augmented control center to more efficiently coordinate their extensive fleet.

According to Ammar Al Braiki, Director of Fleet Operations at DTC, the new system assists managers in making timely operational decisions. It offers real-time visibility into the movements and availability of taxis, buses, limousines and more. This allows controllers to proactively redirect idle vehicles to high-traffic areas as demand changes.

But perhaps more importantly, the AI acts as a co-pilot to DTC staff. Instead of strictly “monitoring” drivers, it aims to support them and improve the passenger experience. By understanding trends and predicting future needs, controllers have deeper insights to address issues or fulfill requests. In an emergency, automated alerts ensure rapid responses.

For schoolchildren, AI-enabled features on special buses safeguard trips. Automated emergency calls and GPS tracking give peace of mind to parents and administrators. Automatic fire suppression systems provide extra safety assurance.

Ammar explained the technology streamlines DTC’s role “ensuring optimal use of the fleet.” It modernises fleet management for the digital age through smarter, data-driven solutions. And with Dubai’s ongoing commitment to innovation, residents can expect further transportation enhancements powered by AI in the future.

By following cooperative and ethical principles, humans and machines look to enhance mobility, convenience and well-being across the thriving emirate together. Dubai continues setting an example for intelligent city infrastructure globally.
