Dubai spotlights future with flying cars, aerial taxis and vertiports

A focal point at this year’s Dubai Airshow will be the integration of aerial taxis into everyday transportation

This upcoming Dubai Airshow promises to take aerial transportation to new heights. Scheduled from November 13-17 at Dubai World Central, the annual event will showcase the latest innovations in advanced air mobility (AAM) and urban air mobility (UAM) under the theme “The Future of the Aerospace Industry.”

A significant highlight of the event is the introduction of a dedicated AAM pavilion, expanding the traditional aerospace, space, and defense showcases. This specialised pavilion will spotlight a wide array of aerial transport solutions, encompassing drones, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), urban air mobility crafts, and electric vertical take-off and landing aircrafts (eVTOLs). A breathtaking flying display featuring eVTOL craft is expected to captivate attendees, showcasing the cutting-edge technology in action.

Moreover, the event will house an AAM conference where industry pioneers and experts will converge to share their insights on transformative technologies, regulations, and infrastructure pivotal in propelling AAM adoption on a larger scale.

A focal point of this year’s discussions will be the integration of aerial taxis into everyday transportation. Dubai, often lauded for its forward-thinking strategies, has been among the pioneers in embracing AAM innovation. The emirate’s ambitious plans to launch aerial taxis in the next few years and the establishment of a comprehensive network of vertiports across the city underlines their commitment to transforming urban mobility.

“This is aligned with our broader vision for Dubai, as outlined in the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 to transform the city into one of the world’s top three urban economies,” said Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

In addition to revolutionising urban transportation, these aerial taxis are positioned to play a critical role in addressing environmental challenges. Reports suggest that by reducing traffic congestion and vehicle usage, flying taxis have the potential to cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80 percent compared to conventional cars.

The Dubai Airshow 2023 aims to be a launchpad for the global aviation industry, providing a platform for regional and international players to explore and discuss futuristic technologies that will reshape the way we perceive air travel.
