Amazon Web Services launches initiatives to empower women in tech in the UAE

AWS announces “Qudwatech” and partners with Dubai Business Women Council to advance gender diversity in STEM

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has unveiled two innovative new initiatives this week aimed at advancing gender diversity in the technology sector. The programmes were introduced at “TheNewSySTEM: Reshaping the Tech Landscape” event in Dubai.

The first initiative, called “Qudwatech,” is a 12-week mentorship program designed to nurture women in technology at all career stages. Through AWS mentors, the program will provide opportunities for professional development, challenging and inspiring women entering the field or looking to enhance their skills.

AWS also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Dubai Business Women Council to launch a second, one-year program targeting mid- to senior-level women. It will offer comprehensive training, mentorship, and upskilling with a focus on promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace.

“We’re delighted to see entities like AWS take such a proactive role in reshaping the regional tech landscape,” said Nadine Halabi of DBWC.

Tanuja Randery, AWS Vice President for EMEA, noted that the MoU “represents a pivotal step in advancing gender diversity.”

She said the programmes “enable us to launch targeted initiatives that empower women at different career stages in technology.”

The launch event was attended by influential figures like Safaa Khanfar of Emirates Group IT and Amna Al Redha of X Lab, underscoring the importance of these initiatives.

Through opportunities like “Culture of Innovation” training sessions, the programs aim to encourage more women to play an active role in building the UAE’s tech sector. AWS’ commitment demonstrates its dedication to gender diversity and equal opportunities worldwide.
