Google Cloud enables seamless healthcare data authentication in Saudi Arabia

Lean utilised Google Cloud’s solution, Apigee, to build a digital platform for medical institutions in Saudi Arabia to securely access healthcare services

Google Cloud has entered into a partnership with Lean Business Services, a provider of digital health solutions, during the LEAP23 conference.

Lean utilised Google Cloud’s solution, Apigee, to build a digital platform for medical institutions in Saudi Arabia to securely access healthcare services.

According to Google Cloud, the collaboration has allowed Lean to set up APIs and authenticate medical institutions and individuals for telemedicine usage.

With over 4,000 APIs running on Apigee, Lean is able to offer a wide range of digital healthcare services, including sick leave services, medical exams, vaccine records, and more. Additionally, Lean has utilised Apigee to establish digital foundations for four national healthcare registries, ensuring the authenticity of medical transactions, institutions, and doctors.

“In digital healthcare quick access and scalability to data and information is important and at Lean we are keen to provide the health sector in the Kingdom with highly efficient scalable solutions utilising technologies and data,” said Fahd Al Saawi, Chief Data Officer, Lean Business Services.

“We process through our platforms and services requests in milliseconds collaborating with Google Apigee as Lean runs more than 4000 APIs. In 2022, Lean processed a total of 9.89 billion API requests on Apigee, supporting the journey of transformation in the health sector in Saudi Arabia and enables more than 24,000 health institutions with the digital infrastructure that provides seamless access to health services and records that are securely exchanged on Apigee.”

Furthermore, Lean has developed an API that connects vaccination records to a national registry storing individual vaccination histories. This API has allowed medical institutions throughout Saudi Arabia to access a centralised national vaccination registry and log and track patient vaccination records. The system ensures children receive necessary vaccinations in a timely manner.

Additionally, Lean utilised Apigee to create the Unified Healthcare Records for Saudi Arabia. This centralised platform securely logs an individual’s medical history and provides doctors with easy access to this information. The availability of past medical history helps healthcare providers in the Kingdom provide appropriate healthcare based on a patient’s history.

Abdulrahman Al Thehaiban, Managing Director of Middle East, Turkey and Africa at Google Cloud, said, “Google Apigee supports the seamless flow of data in healthcare, all under one platform, and that can ultimately save lives. Together with Lean, we are enabling more medical institutions across the Kingdom to embark on their own digital transformation journeys.”
