Huawei Cloud: How AI is reshaping industries

Roy Luo shares insights into how Huawei is revolutionising AI for various sectors

Huawei Cloud is making significant strides in reshaping industries and driving digital transformation across the Middle East and Central Asia through the power of artificial intelligence (AI). Roy Luo – Vice President of Cloud Consulting Solution Sales Dept, Huawei Cloud Middle East & Central Asia, shares insights into how Huawei is revolutionising AI for various sectors and fostering industry growth through innovative cloud and AI technologies.

Reshaping industries with AI

Huawei Cloud is committed to revolutionising AI and bringing pioneering cloud and AI technologies to the Middle East and Central Asia. Their strategy is anchored in the concept of “AI for Industries,” which is designed to empower enterprises across diverse sectors. The foundation of this transformation hinges on systematic innovation, combining both software and hardware elements.

At the system architecture layer, Huawei Cloud has upgraded its Qingtian architecture to a distributed Qingtian architecture. This breakthrough design shift has unleashed AI’s full computing potential by moving from traditional master-slave to a more efficient peer-to-peer architecture.

“Based on the Qingtian architecture, HUAWEI CLOUD Ascend AI cloud services provide computing clusters, computing engine CANN, AI development framework MindSpore, and AI development platform ModelArts, providing optimal computing services for the development and running of large models and AI applications.

At the data processing layer, HUAWEI CLOUD provides one-stop technologies for the entire process on the cloud, including data storage, analysis, sharing, and labeling, enabling enterprises to find, store, remember, and use large model data,” said Luo.

Data is the lifeblood of large models, and Huawei Cloud is well-prepared to handle it. Their Data-AI Convergence Platform leverages unified data resources and metadata technology, LakeFormation, to create logical data lakes. This empowers multiple data analysis and AI engines to share the same data without the need for migration.

Empowering industries with large models

Huawei Cloud has embraced the “Pangu Models 3.0,” a remarkable innovation in AI with its 5+N+X decoupled, hierarchical architecture. This architecture comprises five L0 foundation models, N L1 industry-tailored models, and X L2 AI applications. Each industry and enterprise can create custom big models tailored to their specific needs, driving unprecedented possibilities for innovation.

“At the application development layer, HUAWEI CLOUD integrates the development and production lines, Low Code/No Code platforms, AI application framework, and new AI application engineering suites required for application development, enabling customers to easily build AI native applications based on large models. All of these cloud services can be deployed and used across the cloud, network, edge, and device,” said Luo.

The impact of Huawei Cloud on industry growth and digital transformation in the region is profound. AI adoption is on the rise, and Huawei Cloud is dedicated to the “AI for Industries” strategy, as epitomised by the Pangu Models.

“Huawei Cloud has more than 1,000 AI projects and we have always adhered to the “AI for Industries” strategy. Pangu models have been pre-trained with open datasets from more than 10

industries, including finance, government, meteorology, healthcare, health, Internet, education, automotive, and retail. The data volume of each industry exceeds 50 billion tokens. We are committed to empower enterprises from different industries in the region to build their own large models,” said Luo.

In government and enterprise settings, the Pangu NLP model enhances intelligent customer service systems, elevating efficiency and customer satisfaction. This model can even generate code based on user-specified questions, improving R&D efficiency for programmers.

In the financial sector, Pangu models offer quick adaptability, extending knowledge bases and databases for various scenarios. This results in substantial improvements in sales conversion rates and customer satisfaction.

One of Huawei Cloud’s most notable achievements is the Pangu-Weather, an AI model that can predict weather more accurately and exponentially faster than traditional methods.

“Pangu-Weather can generate a global weather forecast within seconds, one that considers factors such as geopotential, humidity, wind speed, temperature, and sea-level pressure. This model can be applied directly to a wide range of meteorological scenarios. By training deep neural networks on 43 years of global weather data, Pangu-Weather surpasses conventional NWP methods in terms of both accuracy and speed. Both the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and the National Meteorological Center of China Meteorological Administration (NMCCMA) have found evidence supporting the advantages of Pangu-Weather over NWP methods as well as other AI-based methods,” said Luo.

This innovative meteorology model is a game-changer, revolutionising weather prediction and related fields.

The Huawei Cloud Model Community

The Huawei Cloud Model Community plays an integral role in the Middle East and Central Asia. Huawei has been operating in the region for over two decades. The launch of the Riyadh Region as the first public cloud region in the Middle East signifies Huawei’s dedication to providing stable and reliable services with ultra-low latency.

Huawei Cloud has already served numerous government, financial, and internet and cloud-native customers in the Middle East, providing them with innovative solutions to enhance user experiences and unlock new growth opportunities.

“So far, Huawei Cloud has served more than 200 government customers, more than 30 financial customers, and more than 150 Internet and cloud-native customers in the Middle East. We will draw from the wealth of experience that we have accumulated worldwide, including our experience in digitalisation, to provide better options to customers and partners in the Middle East. We will help them improve user experience, optimise processes, enable innovation, and unlock new opportunities for growth,” said Luo.

With a well-established customer base and years of experience, Huawei Cloud’s endeavours in the Middle East and Central Asia are reshaping industries, stimulating growth, and driving digital transformation. Their dedication to the “AI for Industries” strategy, innovative models, and a strong presence in the region highlight their commitment to empowering enterprises and catalysing innovation in this dynamic part of the world. Huawei Cloud’s transformative approach to AI is indeed a powerful catalyst for the intelligent world.
