Oman’s largest data centre is set to launch soon, here’s what you need to know

Oman’s Al Bandar Centre is being developed in multiple phases, with a total capacity to house over 700 racks

Omani data centre services provider Datamount is gearing up to unveil one of the largest data centres in the country. This newe facility, known as Al Bandar Centre, is located in the Muscat Governorate and is set to be officially inaugurated in the Wilayat of Al Seeb. It represents Datamount’s third facility in Oman, complementing its existing centres in Muscat and Al Jabal al Akhdhar.

Al Bandar Centre is being developed in multiple phases, with a total capacity to house over 700 racks. These racks are meticulously designed to meet stringent specifications and standards, ensuring compliance with the demanding requirements of Uptime Tier III and TIA 942 Rated 3 certifications.

Notably, the centre has recently been seamlessly integrated into the local infrastructure, benefiting from a robust connection to the electricity grid and chilled water lines, expertly provided by Tabreed Oman. This strategic partnership enhances the reliability and efficiency of Al Bandar Centre’s operations, further solidifying Datamount’s position as a premier data centre service provider in Oman.

Oman Al Bandar Centre: All hands on deck

In preparation for its upcoming commercial operations, Datamount’s dedicated teams are testing all intricate systems associated with the centre. These tests encompass electricity distribution, cooling mechanisms, fire prevention and control protocols, access safety measures, structural control systems, as well as ensuring the readiness of backup generators, data transmission lines, and electric rooms, all backed by double redundancy.

The cooling systems are intelligently designed to operate in conjunction with dual cooling exchange systems. Furthermore, the centre features an internal cooling mechanism utilising cold water (chiller) to provide supplementary cooling.

Abdulmonem al Futaisi, CEO of Datamount, emphasised the positive impact of the rapid proliferation of digital technologies on Oman’s economy. This transformation not only diversifies income sources but also creates employment opportunities, benefiting Omani youth and small and medium-sized enterprises. In turn, this contributes significantly to elevating Oman’s development indicators and propelling the nation’s digital transformation. It ensures the sustainability and expansion of the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and cloud services in both the public and private sectors.
