Saudi Arabia: Red Sea Global to launch world’s first zero-carbon 5G network

Designed exclusively for The Red Sea, the 5G network is designed to bring high-speed connectivity in the region

Red Sea Global (RSG), the developer behind regenerative tourism destinations, The Red Sea and Amaala, has partnered with telecom and digital services provider Zain KSA to launch the world’s first zero-carbon 5G network at the Six Senses Southern Dunes resort within The Red Sea.

Designed exclusively for The Red Sea, the 5G network is designed to bring high-speed connectivity in the region. It will be powered by renewable energy from over 760,000 solar panels that Red Sea Global has built to power the entire 28,000km2 destination. The project is part of RSG’s effort to use 100 percent renewable energy across its flagship destination.

Red Sea Global’s Group CEO John Pagano noted that the partnership with Zain partnership is a testament to the company’s aspiration to lead in regenerative tourism by adopting 100 percent renewable energy and aiming for a 30 percent net conservation benefit by 2040 at their flagship destination, The Red Sea.

“These ambitious goals demand ambitious partners, and our collaboration with Zain KSA transcends telecommunications, extending into sustainability and environmental protection,” he said.

He added, “Zain KSA has demonstrated a deep understanding of our requirements and provided us with the services and solutions necessary to achieve our strategic objectives. Together, we are determined to make a meaningful impact that sets new standards in sustainable development.”

The project achieves environmental goals through 3D-printed towers that blend with the landscape, minimising visual impact. Zain KSA’s CEO, Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Deghaither, highlighted their commitment to sustainable technology in line with Saudi Vision 2030.

“By prioritising tech for sustainability through innovation and the development of cutting-edge digital infrastructure, we can effectively turn these values into reality. Within this approach, we are committed to localising innovation and promoting the use of locally sourced content and have successfully constructed the 5G towers for this project within Saudi Arabia,” said Al Deghaither.

The collaboration reflects a shared vision of balancing human prosperity with nature preservation. Zain KSA emphasises local innovation and the use of local content, constructing the 5G towers within Saudi Arabia.
