Cisco has hosted the first ever technology show in the Levant to focus exclusively on networking technology.

Cisco has hosted the first ever technology show in the Levant to focus exclusively on networking technology. “Cisco Expo” was held at the end of July in Beirut, in conjunction with Compaq and Microsoft. The exhibition focused on the opportunities of the Internet for technology providers and business concerns from Lebanon and Jordan.

“The Levant is re-emerging as a focal point for commerce in the Middle East,” Reza Mahdavi, managing director of emerging markets for Cisco Systems, said in his opening keynote speech. “Lebanon, Jordan and Syria have recently taken increasingly aggressive positions on rejuvenating their national economies – they now have every chance to seize the opportunities that the global move to e-business has brought.

“There is a tremendous level of excitement in the Levant business community. Entrepreneurs and top-level business leaders have seen the explosion in the new world digital economies around the world – it is now time for this region to take this opportunity and leap-frog to the front line of e-business.”

The event was also backed by Commerce One, PSInet, Middle East ASP TRINEC, and the Lebanese GSM operator LibanCell.
