Al Adeeb Information Technology, an IT security distributor along with security solutions provider, Sophos, is showcasing the very latest in security solutions including Zombie Alert.

Sophos is showing visitors its range of security software that are designed to protect businesses, education and government organisations against viruses, spam, spyware and e-mail abuse.

“We design all our solutions with business users in mind. Also, we make sure all our solutions focus on the needs and threats faced by IT security managers. At the end of the day, our job is to make their job a little easier,” says Dr Kamel Heus, security specialist, Sophos. At present, the company is pushing its Zombie Alert package at Gitex, as it believes global zombie threats are on the rise.

According to Sophos, the rise of broadband connections in the Middle East will likely cause more zombie based attacks in the future. The company believes that its Zombie Alert package will safeguard business users from such attacks. “The Zombie Alert system is basically an early warning system for users,” says Heus.

According to the firm, protecting companies against security threats such as zombie attacks and other security threats is vital, as this prevents them from losing productivity and helps sustain a company’s credibility. “There has been one case where a university in the United States was sending millions of spam e-mails everyday without even knowing it. In the security world, we refer to this as a zombie threat. Once we detected the problem, we contacted the university within 24 hours to inform them,” says Heus.

When asked what separated them from the competition Hues says: “Unlike our competitors, we provide 24-hour support. If you call a technical support centre, you’ll have to go through ten people before you finally get to an IT engineer. When your network is being compromised, you do not have time to wait as this could mean huge losses. However, as soon as you call the Sophos technical help centre, you will immediately be connected to a Sophos engineer.”

Sophos also has plans to hold security awareness campaigns in the region later this year.
