In a world where cyber threats are lurking around every corner, businesses can’t afford to overlook cybersecurity. With cloud technology becoming increasingly popular, it’s more important than ever for companies to prioritise it. That’s where Huawei comes in. The firm is taking the lead in cloud security by stressing the significance of collaboration and multi-layered cybersecurity.

This article will delve deeper into Huawei’s strategy for cloud security and how it can benefit businesses in today’s ever-changing digital landscape with Huawei’s Chief Strategy Officer for the Gulf North region, Kamal Zian.

According to Zian, cloud security is a primary concern for Huawei and is considered a core strategy not only for cloud, but also for other technologies. He acknowledged that customers have valid concerns about data security, and Huawei takes this matter very seriously. To address these concerns, the company offers a set of solutions that are capable of encrypting data, safely storing data, and adhering to international and local standards.

Zian mentioned that Huawei had seen many incidents of data leakage happening worldwide, and thus they have made it a point to secure their customers’ data even more than their own.

“Collaboration is crucial for successful cybersecurity strategies, and it is important to have buy-in from senior management,” he added. “Huawei invests approximately 5% of our $20 billion annual investment in cybersecurity, which demonstrates our unwavering commitment to this field.”

He also stressed the significance of comprehending local regulations, cultures, and policies as a cloud service provider. This necessitates a multi-layered cybersecurity organisation, and Huawei operates on various levels, with the headquarters creating cybersecurity strategies and local offices adapting to fit the particular needs of their region.

Continuing, he noted the significance of collaboration and knowledge sharing between entities globally and regionally, including universities, to provide training and programmes to nurture cybersecurity talent. He added that communication and talent shortages are significant issues in the field, and Huawei is working to mitigate these challenges.

“As a company, we prioritise internal staff training and exams to ensure that our team has a basic understanding of cybersecurity and can avoid human errors,” Zian said, highlighting that the company firmly believes that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility and that collaboration between consumers, regulators, and cloud service providers is crucial to achieving a safer digital transformation.

Collaborating to mitigate cybersecurity threats in the digital landscape

When asked about best practices for collaborating on cloud security across different teams and departments in an organisation, Zian stated that the most crucial aspect is understanding the importance of data security. “Our set of solutions is able to secure data in motion, encrypt data, safely store data, and comply with international and local standards. In addition, having a multi-layered cybersecurity organisation is crucial for successful cybersecurity strategies, and senior management buy-in is a must.”

He emphasised that Huawei operates on different levels, with the headquarters setting cybersecurity strategies and front-line offices adapting to fit local perspectives. However, he pointed out that they are always open to discussing any topic related to cybersecurity and are fully prepared to support our customers’ cybersecurity needs.

“When it comes to approaching local and international companies to buy into Huawei’s cloud security solutions, we don’t face any significant challenge,” said Zian. “As a company, we operate in over 170 countries with local offices, and we have a deep understanding of local regulations, cultures, and policies. So we adapt our policies, operational level, and solutions to fit the local perspective.”
