Apple has opened the doors of its first-ever academy for women developers in Saudi Arabia.

The Academy, which is part of the opening of the first branch of the Apple Developer Academy in the Middle East, was first announced in July 2021. It is in line with Apple’s efforts to assist the programmers and developers by preparing them to work in the app economy. In addition, it also seeks to support the Kingdom’s goals to empower more women in the fields of ICT under the principles of Vision 2030.

More than courses focused on the basics of coding, students and entrepreneurs attending the academy will also be privy to other aspects of application development such as marketing, project management, entrepreneurship and many more from mentors and coaches, 70% of whom are women.

According to Apple, female students aged between 20 and 35 years from across different backgrounds such as information technology, finance, arts, law and medicine have come from all over Saudi Arabia to join the academy.

The new Apple Developer Academy in Riyadh — launched in collaboration with Princess Nourah University (PNU) and Tuwaiq Academy — will be the first Academy specifically focused on female participants, designed to empower female developers and create new job opportunities for women in the region.

The academy is designed to provide the tools and training for aspiring entrepreneurs, developers, and designers to find and create jobs in the thriving iOS app economy. Academy graduates go on to start their own businesses, create and sell apps on the App Store, and give back to their communities. The academy — located inside Princess Nourah University Campus — expects to eventually impact more than 600 women per year, and will offer both a 30-day Foundations introductory course along with the 10-month Academy programme.
