Instagram gearing up to debut Twitter rival

Instagram’s Twitter rival is expected to launch in June

Instagram is developing a text-based application to rival Twitter.

The company is reportedly testing the concept with celebrities and influencers, although they have not been granted full access to the app.

According to reports, Lia Haberman – a social and influencer marketing instructor at UCLA, shared a preliminary app description and suggests that the separate app, which will allow users to link their Instagram accounts, might be launched in June.

Additionally, there are indications that the app could eventually be compatible with other Twitter competitors like Mastodon.

In light of Twitter’s recent tumultuous events surrounding Elon Musk, some users have been seeking alternative platforms, creating an opportunity in the market.

Meta, the owner of Instagram, has yet to confirm or provide any comment on the matter.

According to Haberman, Meta has a history of incorporating features from other applications and third-party tools that they believe will be popular among their users. Haberman also mentioned that Elon Musk has expressed interest in transforming Twitter into a comprehensive app with various features beyond informative posts. Given Meta’s track record of borrowing ideas from other platforms, it is highly probable that they will be the first to achieve this by combining the diverse experiences they are currently developing.
