The parent company of Google, Alphabet, announced that it will be cutting 12,000 employees, or 6% of its workforce.

In a staff note that was published with Reuters, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai claimed that the business has aggressively increased workforce in recent years “for a different economic reality than the one we confront now.”

While the procedure will take longer in other countries due to local employment regulations and norms, Alphabet has already emailed the affected employees, according to the message.

“I take full responsibility for the decisions that led us here,” company’s chief executive Sundar Pichai said in an email to employees.

Teams across the organisation, including recruiting, corporate operations, as well as technical and product teams, are impacted by job losses at Alphabet. The layoffs are global and impact U.S. staff immediately.

Recently, another tech giant, Microsoft also announced the possible firing of 11,000 employees.
