WhatsApp now lets users edit messages. Here’s how it works

Users will be able to ‘Edit’ messages within fifteen minutes after the message has been sent on WhatsApp

Popular messaging platform, WhatsApp, has introduced a new ‘Edit’ feature in its latest update, allowing users to modify their previously sent messages.

The objective of this addition is to empower individuals by granting them more authority over their conversations, enabling them to rectify errors or add supplementary information to their messages.

The new features is “for the moments when you make a mistake or simply change your mind.”

From correcting a simple misspelling to adding extra context to a message, we’re excited to bring you more control over your chats,” the messaging app said in a statement.

To edit a sent message, simply:

  • Long-press the message
  • Choose the ‘edit’ option from the dropdown menu
  • The modified message will be labeled as ‘edited’ to indicate the change
  • The app does not display the edit history of messages

WhatsApp has emphasised that both messages and edits will remain safeguarded through end-to-end encryption.

The messaging application has recently introduced a feature called ‘Chat Lock,’ which enables users to safeguard their highly private conversations with a password. These protected chats will be stored in a separate folder, ensuring that the sender’s name and content remain concealed upon receiving new messages.

Additionally, WhatsApp is reportedly in the process of developing another functionality that will enable users to generate stickers from images.
